Glazed Apples with the T- Fal ActiFry

We always seem to have apples on hand which means there is usually a percentage that goes bad. I am always looking for new ways to use produce while I can. Last week, I received the ActiFry cooker for review and I wanted to try it with the ingredients I had on hand which just happened to be a bag of small Granny Smith apples, maple syrup and cinnamon. {All those healthy choices in the cookbook and I pick glazed apples. Oh well, good fiber!}

Pulling out my ActiFry, I prepped it as required, washing parts with a mild dishsoap. Cooking parts are also dishwashable. {Note: you never want to submerge the electrical base in water but you can wipe it down with a damp rag and dishsoap.}

Apples are all lined up and ready to go!

8 small apples are cut and mixed with a Tablespoon of oil. (I added a splash more oil since I had 8 small apples instead of 4 larger ones.)

ActiFry is washed up and loaded to go.

AcitFry is on and timer set for 10 minutes.

Apples start turning via the ActiFry paddle inside.

After 10 minutes of cooking, 2 Tbs maple syrup & 1 tsp of cinnamon are added. Again, I added more syrup for the larger # of apples but the cinnamon seemed sufficient for the amount.

Apples are cooked and ActiFry turned off to open the lid.

I served the cooked apples with a little triangle of Brie cheese for a delightful, tasty treat. Raisins or apricots would have gone well with this dish also.

Next, I plan to try making sweet potato fries once I get to the grocery store this week. The apples keep their structure well which will be great when cooking fries. Yummoo!

Cuddle Covers

Cuddle Covers was a big hit in my house, in my car, under my daughter, under my dog.

Yeah, it's a keeper and that's straight from the mouth of a budding teenager who I thought would be too old. And what I found out is: you are never too old for fun snuggles like you get with Cuddle Covers. (Man, that sounds like a marketer talking which I am not . . . well, at least for this product . . . . .) But, really, this is a cute one that I would definitely consider buying down the road as a present for someone else.

From the website, it appears that Cuddle Covers come in a variety of styles and you can cover your own pillow or buy an official Cuddle Cover pillow. Cuddle Covers come as Berry the Bear, Louie the Lion, Kit the Cat, Max the Dog, Don the Dinosaur, Izzy the Unicorn.

We are on the go ALOT these days. One more big trip next week and I am looking forward to life calming down for  a litte bit. Or at least until  summer hits. We have a big road trip planned as we always do to my mother's in North Carolina. I have a feeling I know which pillow will be in the car for the trip. Since I drive the whole 10 hours, I don't get my turn with Berry the Bear. Maybe once I get there. Anyone out there offering chauffeur services for review? Just kidding.  . . . but not really.

Cover your own pillow or buy one from Cuddle Covers.

Zip 'er up!

Good for ALL ages!

Bigjigs Toys Freight and Rail

When I first received the opportunity to talk about Bigjigs Toys, I immediately thought of my 2 year old nephew who would LOVE the train sets. He doesn't live in my area so I had my daughter assemble the set for this review and I will pack it up and give it to little J this summer.

I actually enjoyed watching my 13 year old take out all the pieces and with the precision and passion of a puzzle maker, she got out the tool kit and got to work. A few of the parts needs screwing together but fortunately they don't have to be unscrewed to fit back in the handy box.

What I thought was cool were the little emergency vehicles and cars designed with the same size wheels to work on the same tracks. Overall, it is a very cool set and I know my nephew will love it.

Bigjigs Toys has now opened an online store so now you don't have to be a specialty store to get their cool toys. You can shop online!

Bigjigs Rail comes nice and tidy in a handy box!

The Freight set is coming together!

All ready to play!

Nickelodeon Floam and Gak are BACK!

Our fun box of Floam and Gak arrived last week at the perfect time: Spring Break! Nickelodeon reformulated their classic concoctions and kids are going to more pleased than ever!

We received three containers of Gak in red, green and blue and three of Floam in red, blue and yellow.

The Gak came in their own star shaped containers that you would think might make it hard to get the stuff out of but my daughter and her friend were able to remove it all fairly easily.The instructions called for kneading the Gak on a plastic surface which also came in the box. As the girls played with it, it became more pliable and less "wet." It also shrunk.The Gak was great for stretching, blowing bubbles, bouncing in smaller balls and making silly noises with when putting it back into the container.

My youngest found that she pulled it out a couple of times over the course of the week, making bigger and bigger bubbles by sticking a cut straw into one section of the goop.And, then my other daughter returned from her European adventure to Paris, a gracious gift by my sister, and out came the Floam! My youngest went the simple route and made a beautiful basic flower.

With much art to inspire her, my oldest set to work replicating Monet's pond, a place she visited on her trip. She combined colors to get the effect she wanted. With some Floam still left over, she also made Van Gogh's Starry Night! I was pleasantly surprised with their Floam and Gak experience!

{Disclosure: I received three sets of each for review: Nickelodeon Floam and Nickelodeon Gak. All thoughts and opinions are my own.}

Tales to Play celebrates April 12: Drop Everything and Read Day.

At Toy Fair 2012, I had the privilege of viewing the darling new games by Tales to Play which are inspired by classic children's books. I was sent the game The Berenstain Bears™ Learn to Share™ Game for review and it's so cute with characters from the popular series and a playset that could be used with or without the game.

In The Berenstain Bears™ Learn to Share™ Game, Mama, Papa, Brother and Sister Bear are brought to life as kids race around the board. Drop the die down the tree house slide to roll, move your bear or draw a card that will tell you about a nice behavior or one that could cause some trouble. Kids love the fun role play and trying to be the first to reach Mama and Papa Bear! For ages 4 and up.

Tales to Play have also created games based on Mother Goose, The Little Engine That Could™ and Where the Wild Things Are™.

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day is coming up April 12. It’s a day set aside in honor of author Beverly Cleary’s birthday as a day to promote reading for youngsters. Tales to Play line is a line of games that bring to life classic children’s books. Currently, there's no Beverly Cleary title in the Tales to Play line, but they do have Where the Wild Things Are, The Little Engine That Could, the Berenstain Bears and Mother Goose. And by this fall, they plan to add Clifford the Big Red Dog. Tales to Play is promoting DEAR Day – honoring a well-loved children’s author and asking families to consider using Tales to Play games to encourage reading and a love of books in their households.

Fish Window Cleaning: MUCH more than their foaming glass cleaner!

Fish Foam Premium Foaming Glass Cleaner

When I agreed to review the cleaning product Fish Foam by Fish Window Cleaning, I had no idea they were also a full-service company who actually comes out to clean all your windows, screens, gutters, chandeliers, ceiling fans, skylights, awnings and mirrors.

Since I've started working, weekends are already full with completing the basics (like maybe feeding my family a home cooked meal)  . . . much less deep cleaning like my windows and screens. So, I was in awe of the THOUGHT of having a service come handle the hard-to-reach spots my husband and I keep ignoring (like maybe the dirt will just rub off or blow away or something.}

When Fish Window Cleaning offered a full window cleaning for my home to try to service and their foaming cleanser, I was more than excited! In fact, I added a hallway chandelier cleaning to the day which I paid for myself.

Fish Window Cleaning

The Fish Window Cleaning Truck arrives at my house!

The service started with the owner of the local franchise, Barbara Young, coming out to see the house and determine what needed to be done. She was very helpful and friendly and left me with instructions. I had two main jobs: ONE, make the windows accessible by moving any knicknacks or furniture and raising the blinds; and TWO, buy new lightbulbs for the high-in-the-sky hallway chandelier. Well . .  I got the first one right. I had to run out to buy lightbulbs after the guys started cleaning and had no fresh replacements. Oops!

This is our garage/ wood workshop window before cleaning!

Here is the same window AFTER cleaning!

I asked if the window cleaners use Fish Foam throughout the house. They actually use a mild soap, water and a squigee for large areas. Fish Foam is used for tight spaces or small glass panes like the windows above. It's also great for touch-up spots (like the intentional face mark one of our kids thought would be funny to add to our back sliding glass door after the cleaning crew left. And, believe me, I have oily faced teenagers.)

Fish Window Cleaning comes with their own seriously huge ladders!

The truck has everything but the kitchen sink! Lots to get the job done!

In one sentence, I was very happy with Fish Window Cleaning Service. They did an amazing job  and I would definitely recommend their services! They came, they worked hard, my house shined and now I can see the rest of the dirt inside my house so much better – perfect for Spring cleaning everywhere else! Now, if they could just hose out the rest of the house and get rid of clutter! Just kidding, I wouldn't put that on anyone – that's on me.

AND, according to their website: FISH provides service to more than 100,000 commercial and residential customers nationwide. We specialize in cleaning: ground level storefronts; one, two, and three story office buildings; restaurants; banks; churches; schools; and homes. Whether at work or at home, FISH can offer a variety of services such as: exterior windows of all types, storm windows, construction clean ups, screens, mirrors, chandeliers, ceiling fans, gutters, and skylights.

Fish Foam Premium Glass Cleaner is a nice follow-up product, after using Fish Window Cleaning service for the whole house, because it STAYS PUT on the window, eliminating drips and runs. It also foams which not only makes the kids want to help but it cuts through oil and grease. You can tell this glass cleaner was made by professional window cleaners for a tough job.

See more pictures on my Google + album. My co-writer on DIYFrugal is doing a giveaway of a can of Fish Foam.

{Disclosure: I was treated to a full window and screen cleaning for my home and several bottles of Fish Foam for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Note: I only give this much coverage to products I truly believe in.}

Mystery Book "Come Home" by Lisa Scottoline — Coming Out Tuesday in Print & CD April 10.

I don't even have to listen to my new mystery book CD Set "Come Home" by Lisa Scottoline to know it will be good. I wanted to get this post up before the April 10th release but I am actually saving the book itself as a special treat for a long ride I need to make in about two weeks.

You may ask – how do I know it will be good? What do I know about Lisa Scottoline? I know that I have loved every one of her books since I read her first novel "Everywhere that Mary Went." Over the year, my sister and I have regularly sought out Lisa at local book signings so we could exchange her works for birthdays and Christmases as a special surprise. At least once, I read my gift before wrapping it so I wouldn't have to wait.

Note: I copied this image from the website. Click to get to all the links in the image.

{OR, order on Amazon Here: Come Home}

Lisa also lives in the Philadelphia suburbia not too far from me and she uses this entire area to build her rich and suspenseful mysteries. So, I get to imagine stories playing out in familiar territory and at the same time get wrapped up in all the multi-layered, tension filled-details Lisa adds that keep you reading or listening into the wee hours. I like the CDs for some of the long car trips I make.

Here's a synopsis of this new book from Lisa's website:

Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom, who has finally gotten her and her daughter's life back on track after a divorce. She is about to remarry a great guy, her job as a pediatrician fulfills her, though it is stressful, and her daughter Megan is a happily over-scheduled thirteen-year-old, juggling homework and swim team.

Jill's life is turned upside-down when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up on their doorstep late one night and delivers shocking news — Jill's ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer. Jill reluctantly agrees to make a few inquiries, and discovers that things don't add up. As she digs deeper, her actions threaten to rip apart her new family, destroy their hard-earned happiness, and even endanger her own life. Yet, Jill can't turn her back on a child she loves and once called her own. COME HOME reads with the break-neck pace of a thriller, but also explores the definition of motherhood. It asks the questions: Do you ever stop being a mother? Can you ever have an ex-child? What are the limits and love of family?

However you decide to absorb this book, I know it will be awesome!

Colgate Spruces up Easter with Oral Hygiene Nickelodeon Style! #EasterSmiles

Easter is an important holiday for my family. As Christians, we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's son. We go to church wearing our Spring finest and praise the Lord for His mercy and grace in our lives. It's a beautiful thing. He is Risen, He is Risen, Indeed!

BUT, as full-blooded Americans, sugar addicted and all, I can't seem to escape also celebrating the day with Easter baskets full of candy sprinkled marshmallow Peeps, chocolate candies, peanut butter Easter eggs, and the like. I do try to add in something personal, which is why this shoppertunity with Collective Bias came at a good time. Why not add oral hygiene items by Colgate into our Easter basket? It's a perfect addition to all the candy (not only the candy I buy but the huge cream filled eggs my mother-in-law buys)!

So, in preparation for this holiday, I knew Wal-mart was the best place locally to fill up on oral hygiene items, {I bought my candy at the grocery store later}. I knew it would have the two popular characters: Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants, based on the popular shows on Nickelodeon. I am happy to help make toothbrushing time as fun as possible.

Arriving at Walmart for Easter shopping!

I do love the great deals at our Walmart in Audobon, PA; especially with the new grocery section that gives you fresh healthy items too!

Shopping for Easter basket goodies in the oral hygiene aisle.

The Easter "pallet" for Colgate items was nowhere to be found but the items were there, integrated in with all the toothbrushes and toothpastes.

Colgate's Nickelodeon Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Easy to find! This Walmart is one of the best tended ones I have ever seen!

Easter basket with Colgate Toothbrush and Toothpaste inside. Now for more goodies!

The toothbrushes and toothpaste only took up a little room. I went shopping later for my kids' other favorites without going toooo nuts! I didn't get a chance to get a picture yet since I usually like to arrange everything the morning of Easter when my girls are still sleeping. Bags are pulled from various spots around the kitchen. It's like having my own Easter egg hunt!

Hope you have a wonderful Easter! See my whole Colgate shopping experience on my Google Plus Album. #EasterSmiles
