Saturday afternoon I took three giggling tweenagers and my 13-year-old daughter to see the much hailed movie Never Say Never 3D, an autobiographical movie based on the life of young Canadian pop star Justin Bieber. {And no, we didn't get purple 3D glasses – just black standard theater issue.}
The movie starts with dreamy-eyed girls expressing their undying love and adoration for Justin. They'd obviously been smitten by the growing epidemic "Bieber Fever" and I wondered if I could sit through two hours of this. Instead, I watched an incredible journey unfold as a talented young individual worked toward his dream of selling out Madison Square Gardens. Snippets of his past and preparations for this big event were punctuated by songs filmed in and around the most important sell-out concert of his budding career.
And, you know what, it doesn't take much for a mom like me to cry; so, seeing his dad and granddad come to tears had me welling up. This boy, a son, a grandson was exploding in talent – the kind that had family and young girls crying. And, what a testimony you see through his mom, Pattie, as she helped him follow his dreams and pursue such outstanding abilities. I didn't realize the work he did with Scooter Braun, his agent, traveling from radio station to radio station. Social media helped his popularity but his willingness to go anywhere and do anything to share a talent and passion burning inside him was truly amazing.
And, people clapped at the end. It wasn't even the premiere. On a Saturday afternoon, a week after opening, a theater of people clapped for this kid who decided to share himself with the world.
A tweet from Justin Bieber tonight reads: Justin Bieber: let us know your thoughts….this is not a concert film….we made it to inspire young and old…thanks. #NSNreview
As the "old," I will say that this movie does inspire me to follow my dreams and better yet, to help my children pursue theirs – following the talents God instilled in them. And yes, Justin and his mom focus on the role of God in their lives. I also hope this movie will inspire others to praise God and realize that the path we take is ultimately determined by Him.
A discussion guide is available for this movie which includes the following topics: Discerning God's Plan for Your Life, The Power of Prayer, The Importance of Godly Friendships, and Goal-Setting, Hard Work and Perseverance. Each section is followed by questions, verses and lessons to learn. If you want to digital copy sent to you, leave a comment and I'll make sure you get one.
Hebrews 10: 35-39
"35So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For,
“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
and will not delay.”
38 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”
39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved."
Praise the Lord!

{Honestly, I never thought I would be posting about a teen star — until I read about his life and his faith. My 12 & 13 year old daughters thought he was much more cool after hearing this and that is something right there! Keep reading to get the amazing details for yourself!
After a meteoric rise to fame, teen heart throb and musical child prodigy Justin Bieber wants the world to know that he didn't do it alone. On February 11, Justin will share the secret of his success on the big screens in theaters around the world in his autobiographical rags-to-riches tale, Never Say Never.
As evidenced in his song Pray, Justin wishes youth around the world to be inspired by the power of prayer. Building on the solid foundation of faith started by his mother, Pattie Mallette, Justin shows his commitment to prayer to Jesus Christ, Son of God, as he prays publically before every major concert and every day as his fame continues to grow.
His secret? God, family, faith, solid friendships, and daily prayer for discernment and discipline. God blessed Justin with tremendous musical abilities and he is giving back out of his desire to glorify the Lord through his life.
From Stratford, Ontario, Justin grew up at poverty level but taught himself how to play piano, guitar, drums and the trumpet. When he wanted to enter a singing competition at age 12, his mom Pattie thought it would be fun. They knew they were up against big stakes. Someday maybe her musical son would make a great worship leader or young minister. When she posted his videos on YouTube to show family and friends, she had no idea that God had a very different direction for them. Through this experience, she has learned the value of prayer warriors in her life and wise counsel as she allowed her son to spread his wings and "Never Say Never."
Here's the trailer for the movie and a few more details:

Thanks for stopping by. Giveaway is closed.
After almost 3 years of blogging, I finally figured out what I want to do with this blog – to build community — to hear from you. Some people seem to figure this out early in their blogging but these things take me a little longer.
So many of you are starting fresh every day, every month, every year. I want to hear your stories, tell your tales – your "genesis moments." I've told you mine for almost three years now. I really do want to hear from you. Perhaps I'll create a blog button for it or a Mr. Linky, but for now, I want to give a little prize to one commentor just to give a little incentive to participate. Perhaps prizes will get bigger as we go or maybe we'll get enough stories to compile them into a book of fresh clean starts! I'll try to run giveaways weekly as long as I have prizes to give, just to sweeten' the deal.
Leave a comment or a link to a blogpost here in the comments for a chance to win a DVD I just received called "Christmas in Canaan" starring Billy Ray Cyrus. It's the story that "shows the most important gifts in life are the ones money can't buy."
GIVEAWAY RULES:
Leave a comment or blog link now through December 1st telling me about your fresh clean start- what you did and where it took you. For some of you, that process isn't over and for some you've already moved on but that moment or that new start took you in directions you never expected. For some of you, today is a new start and I want to hear that too.
Tweet or blog or post on facebook for more chances to win, then come back and let me know you did it!
The Last Airbender is finally coming out on Blu-Ray/DVD and I am sooo excited. If you didn't already read the title of this post, you may wonder why I can't wait to get my hands on the new DVD/Blu-Ray set.
Okay, I went through a phase – a really fun phase where I submitted my name to every movie coming to film here in the Philadelphia area and out of some miracle and graciousness of the casting companies, I was called a couple of times. It has been BLAST and The Last Airbender was the last movie I was in.
I had the exciting opportunity of going to the set for three days, getting dressed in warm, multi-layered clothing (that totally made going to the bathroom a complete pain but I'm not complaining – really, I'm not), and walking through a snowy Northern Water Tribe Village courtyard- only a fraction of what showed up in the movie. Gotta love CGI!
Releasing on November 16th, the DVD/Blu-Ray set has tons of background footage that I am totally going to check out since this movie has such incredible scenes and plenty of props I didn't get to see in person. In case you didn't know, this movie is based on a popular children's cartoon called "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (thus creating some confusion with the more recent movies by James Cameron called "Avatar").
BUT, don't look too close for me. I am too small to recognize in the scene where Ang rides into the Northern Water Tribe on his big fuzzy animal or they fuzzed my face – like when I am standing beside Ang's water bending teacher right before they bow down to Ang to recognize him as the one and only last airbender. I've got the funky hat on and my hands are in front of me but even my husband didn't recognize me.
So, enough about me. Here's a couple of really cool clips as Noah Ringer learns his part and secondly, when his mother explains how she felt when her son did his own daring stunts. {It brought back such memories as I recognized some of the background crew. I just love this stuff. It's infectious.}
