Dirty Dishes Be Gone! Taking the #FinishRiseandShine Challenge

(NOTE: I didn’t have time to put up a separate post about the Boston Marathon tragedy but my thoughts and prayer go out to the victims and families of such a horrific event.)

And, now back to the dishes. . . .

My mother always pre-washed her dishes. In fact, sometimes I wondered if they even needed the dishwasher after she was done. Apparently, to her, the dishwasher is basically a sterilizer not an actual washer. Why? She never trusted the end result and with some detergents, she has a point.

My sister-in-law on the other hand, never pre-washes because she always says, “What’s the point?” and sometimes I agree with her; sometimes I don’t.

Who’s right?

Well, it really depends on the dishwasher, the detergent and what exactly you were cooking and for how long.

I always tend to scrape and scrub a little but after my recent avocado swap, I was exhausted and needed a bit of efficiency so I took the Finish Power Gel Rise and Shine Challenge and packed in all the left-over party dishes in my dishwaster along with the prep dishes that were stacking up throughout the afternoon.

You can see the dishes from an avocado morning shake I made for the crowd, along with all the rest of what we were serving (more details on that in an upcoming post).

Avocado Shake Recipe (adapted from the Digest Diet morning shakes)

3/4 Cup plain yogurt

1 Tablespoon honey

1/2 avocado

1 green apple

1/4 cup light coconut milk

Splash of 2 % milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

2-3 ice cubes

OPTIONAL: 1 Tablespoon flaxseed meal

 BLEND and SERVE!

DIRTY:

Finish Dish Detergent

DONE:

Finish ChallengeI have to say that I am pretty impressed. Only the larger plastic bowl, which was being blocked partially by the smaller ceramic bowl, had a small amount of dried avocado stuck to one side that I had to scrap off.

Way to go, Finish! No more every-crumb pre-rinsing for me (with the exception of large pieces of food that won’t dissolve easily).
