Celebrating the 3rd Annual Neighborhood Toy Store Day on November 10th

Recently I was sent several quality toys in celebration of  the 3rd annual Neighborhood Toy Store Day coming up on Saturday, November 10th.

The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association created this day to highlight local shopping and community building. Their new website, YourNeighbhorhoodToyStore.org (where you can Discover the Woohoo Factor!), is a website for parents who want to know more about the best children’s toys on the market and where to find them.

For this promotion, I was sent Tenzi Game
(an easy-to-use colored dice game)

and Loopdedoo Kit for Making Twisted Accessories

Both came in handy when we were recently stuck in doors for two days while Hurricane Sandy passed over.

LoopDeDoo came with a great DVD which explained how to make items from embroidery floss using the simple twisting tool included in the box. My daughter and her friend made several colorful anklets.

When it comes to shopping local, I love my neighborhood toy store because I know items are handpicked and placed on shelves with care. I know the owner and her husband and their history in our community. I love to see what she finds important to stock. Last Christmas, I even found a doll I had never seen in the Breyer horse line — a “Laura” veterinarian. And, with having a Laura in my family who wants to be a veterinarian, I couldn’t have been more pleased!

Shopping local helps keep income local and supports community. I am firm believer of that and was grateful to be part of this promotion!
