Fotolia is My New Fave for Photos!

With all the digital technology at your fingertips, why buy pictures? Well, unless you are a phenomenal and avid photographer, your own digital creations won't do the trick when you are creating powerpoint slides, flyers, graphic pieces, websites, etc. Sites like Fotolia let you buy them and use them in whatever you are creating, as long as you aren't selling the picture itself.

Fotolia was a new name to me when I was sent their information this last month. It's a picture download site with incredibly cheap rates. You can subscribe and download pictures at your whim or you can pay for credits and buy pictures individually, similar to iStockphoto where I've bought pictures before.

For example, I needed a picture of a piggybank. I was reasonably happy with the options and it looked like there were more I didn't even look through since I found what I wanted.

Because I was given a subscription for review, I was able to direct download several piggybanks and money-saving related photos that can be used for anything, which is great for my DIYFrugal site. On the other hand, if you don't want to subscribe, you can decide what size you want to buy. If you don't need a hi-resolution picture for a graphic creation and you simply want to spruce up a blogpost legally, small size photos work better for the Internet anyway and save you money per picture.

Here's a cool video that show some of their amazing images. Who needs to hire models when you have all these at your fingertips?

Or, incorporate it into your Power Point program:

You can also edit pictures in programs like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop or edit them in more basic editors in Picasa or Picnik to get the colors and image variations you need! I enjoyed downloading a couple of fun panels with various business card options.

    Great review.
Can i ask you few questions?

Lets say iam freelancer web programmer.
And i need to buy few pics for one client, can i buy them from my account and use them on their web site ?
I have asked fotolia this question but i dont quite understand it, i only understand that if i buy a pic a can only use it on one website or one client or just for me??? Am I right?
This is the reply from them :

"“Thank you for your e-mail. The exact legal setup depends on the respective business relationship with the client. There are two fundamental scenarios:

    1. The client purchases the picture and the agency uses this image in their role as “fulfillment service or contractor”. The usage rights to the picture rest with the client. The advantage for the client – they can use the picture for other purposes.

    2. The agency buys the image, building it for example into a website and then sells the rights to the site (containing the picture) to the client. The advantage for the agency – if the client wishes later to use the picture for other purposes, they must either commission the job with the agency or buy the license from Fotolia themselves. In the rare case of a different customer wanting to use the same image, a new license should be acquired. ”"

and one more question, Can i edit pictures when i buy them?
Like insert words, cut them in half, mix with other images,…
    Thank you in advanced
