Today I joined my awesome fellow Philly bloggers for a Do Good Day sponsored by 77Kids and The Motherhood! 77Kids is a youth clothing division of American Eagle that is opening this summer and promoting community involvement with pay-it-forward projects all over the country.
Today, 7 bloggers in 11 cities (or 77 bloggers) found some way to give back to the community they lived in. Six of our Philly team gathered at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr Retirement Community and spread a little sunshine with flowers, crafts and songs for a gathering of residents in the activity area.
My daughters were in morning camp so they couldn't join me but my youngest helped put together 20 little fresh flower bouquets to hand out. Other moms and children brought colorful crafts, potted silk flowers and drawings to share.
As always, it was fun to see familiar blogging faces, meet some new ones and give back in a special way!

We also received a box of goodies, really cool 77Kids t-shirts for my girls, and little flyers to attach to dollar bills which my girls and I are handing out later tonight when we go to the opening screening of the new musical movie "Standing Ovation".
The flyer reads: 7 good deeds to do for free:
1. Open the door for someone, offer a seat, let them go in front of you.
2. Sweep off (rake, shovel) the whole sidewalk.
3. Smile at people you pass by.
4. Offer a free car wash to your neighbor.
5. Leave a note of support or appreciation for someone who could use it.
6. Visit with someone you know who is in a nursing home.
7. Tell the people closest to you (especially your kids!) why you love the.
The back says:
7 good things to do with a dollar:
1. Buy from a lemonade stand, a bake sale or another fundraiser.
2. Leave a dollar in a vending machine for someone else to find.
3. Pay the toll for the car behind you.
4. By a sheet of stickers and hand them out to kids.
5. Put four quarters in parking meters.
6. Tip a street musician.
7. Send a thank-you card to someone who made a difference in your life.
(Disclosure: In addition to the t-shirts & goodies in our box, we did receive compensation for this project — but the benefits to all involved were priceless!

What a great event! We take our kids to Saunders House for Evening Prayer once a month and they help the residents hold their prayerbooks and hymnals and just love the experience.
What a wonderful way to bless the residents at the home! I always loved taking my kids to our local retirement home. Sometimes I thought we were more blessed than anyone. =)
